Retinal Health & Prevention Guide
Once damaged, the retina is extremely difficult to restore.
Regular screenings and healthy habits are the best way to protect your vision.
Going beyond standard vision tests to comprehensive retinal health assessment
Gangnam Tokyo Eye Clinic's precision fundus examination sets the standard.

Retinal diseases caused by aging and degeneration that lead to vision loss and visual field defects.

Wear sunglasses or a hat during outdoor activities to reduce oxidative stress on the retina.
We recommend consuming dark green and yellow vegetables rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, and fish containing omega-3.
Smoking is the most dangerous factor, increasing the risk of macular degeneration by more than three times.
Retinal Disease Self-Diagnosis (Amsler Grid)

- 1
Preparation
Prepare in a bright place while wearing your usual glasses or contact lenses. - 2
Maintain Distance
Cover one eye and look at the round dot on the grid from a distance of 30cm. - 3
Memorize
Fix your gaze on the central round dot and remember how the lines appear. - 4
Verify
Check if the lines appear wavy or broken, then repeat with the other eye.
Other Conditions
- 1
Diabetic Retinopathy (Macular Edema)
When the macula swells due to diabetic complications,
the grid lines appear wavy as if refracted by water. - 2
Retinal Vascular Occlusion (Eye Stroke)
When bleeding or edema occurs in the macula due to blocked blood vessels, certain areas appear blurry or lines appear broken. - 3
Epiretinal Membrane
When a fibrous membrane on the macula pulls the retina,
the grid pattern appears wrinkled and distorted. - 4
Central Serous Retinopathy
When fluid accumulates under the macula,
the grid may appear smaller than actual or feel distant.
Lines appear wavy or broken,
and the dot is hard to see?
